MIDLANDS REGIONAL YOUTH GROUPS
The Midshires Youth Society
Young people from the league bands got together with Donna & Keith Eden, Fred Haddon and Tracey Davis to establish the Midshires Youth Society (MYS) in February 2002. The Midshires league was the first to have a youth forum of this kind.
Our aim was to start up a youth movement within the UKFJB, to learn the jobs of officers, to run meetings properly and eventually be able to take up official positions within our movement.
Young people from the Midshires league bands (Cheeky Monkeys, Millennium Allstars, Royal Premieres, Royal Corsaires, Chase Royals and Starlight Paraders) aged 10 to 25, attend monthly MYS meetings to discuss issues and events going on throughout the movement and try to find a solution to these problems, then give the feedback to the league.
We have now elected our officers:-
Chairperson - Jason Ross
Vice Chairperson - Vicky Davis
Treasurer - Kelly Robertson
Secretary - Kelly Howell
We run our own meetings in the same way as any meeting takes place throughout the movement and take minutes to document them. Also we have our own constitution and rules, which are followed at our meetings. Some of the MYS members have attended the Midshires meetings so they could see how a league meeting was run and to give feedback on how the MYS is doing. Soon we will have elected our delegates who will attend league, regional and UK meetings.
The MYS are also planning to hold trips for its members and also to hold a gala day.
If you are interested and belong to a Midshires band, please feel free to approach any MYS member, your band trainer or contact Kelly Howell
